Home Decorators Collection Ceiling Fan Remote Guide

Home Decorators Collection fans tend to be the styled, design-forward models in Home Depot’s lighting aisle, and their remotes come in two broad families. One family learns the fan’s code with a single button press. The other is set by hand with tiny DIP switches. Figure out which one is in your hand and the rest is easy.

Most of the Home Decorators Collection remotes we list are the learning type. They have up to nine fan speeds, forward and reverse, dimming and a 2, 4 or 8 hour shut-off timer.

The one-button learn method

We list these learning remotes by remote number and by fan model number. You’ll find them in the product grid below, or you can search our Home Decorators Collection remotes. The receiver accepts a new remote only for about 30 seconds after power returns, so get everything ready first.

1. Put two fresh AAA batteries in and leave the battery door off.
2. Find the little slide switch in the compartment and set it to position 1.
3. Turn the fan off at the wall switch or breaker, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
4. Straight away, press Learn once and let go.
5. The light flashes and the blades start turning. Close the battery door and test the speeds, reverse and the light.

Copying a DIP code from the receiver or your old remote

DIP-switch remotes don’t pair at all. They send whatever code their switches are set to, and the receiver in the fan answers only when its own switches match. Home Depot’s own Home Decorators Collection manuals spell this out. The manual for one Home Decorators Collection fan tells owners to set the receiver’s switches to the same positions as the remote’s.

If you still have the old remote

1. Open the old remote’s battery door and write down each switch as up or down, reading left to right.
2. Set the new remote’s switches to the same pattern, using a pen tip.
3. Put in the battery and test every button.

If the old remote is gone

The code is also on the receiver in the fan’s canopy. You will need to lower the canopy to read it.

On remotes with four code switches there are 16 possible patterns. If you can’t reach the receiver, you can work through them one at a time until the fan responds. The older 9V style

A few older Home Decorators fans use a 9V remote with a reverse key on its face, such as the DL-4112T-02. It comes with its own pairing instructions. If anything is unclear, call us and we’ll walk you through it.

Finding your Home Decorators Collection model number

Start with the remote: the number is usually on the back or inside the battery compartment. If that label has worn off, go to the fan. Home Depot’s Home Decorators Collection customer service page says the SKU or model number is on the product box, your store receipt or the user manual, and that you can find a manual by searching the SKU, model or UPC on homedepot.com. Manual covers usually show both a Home Depot item number and a fan model number.

Who makes Home Decorators Collection fans?

Home Decorators Collection is a Home Depot brand. Home Depot acquired the label in 2006 and now uses it across furniture, lighting and ceiling fans. For warranty claims on the fan itself, Home Depot’s customer service page and the manual list a Home Decorators Collection phone line. Our store is independent. When the LED light is the problem, not the remote

If the fan answers the remote but the integrated light stays dark, the LED array has probably failed. Energy Star notes that light kits often fit only fans of the same brand, so buy by your fan’s model number. We list them by fan model in our LED light array category. Quick fixes for Home Decorators remotes

• Works up close, not across the room: replace the batteries. AAA learning remotes lose range as the cells weaken.
• Stopped working after a storm or outage: learning receivers can lose what they learned. Run the learn steps again.
• Light won’t dim: on DIP-switch remotes with a fifth switch, check that it is set for a dimmable light, and make sure your bulbs are dimmable.
