Will This Remote Fit?

This remote is made to replace the TR198B. Check the label on your old remote (often inside the battery cover) — if it reads TR198B, this is the one you need.

About the Home Decorators Collection TR198B Remote

Prefer a white handset? Our white TR198B replacement remote controls Home Decorators Collection DC fans with 9 speeds, forward and reverse, light dimming, a fan-off timer and breeze modes.

The TR198B number is printed on the old remote's label, often inside the battery bay. It is the handset that came with Celene and Kensgrove fans, among others. Matching number? Then set the slide switch, power-cycle the fan and press Learn.

  • Forward and reverse from the handset
  • No DIP switches: power-cycle, press Learn, done
  • Includes a wall holder with mounting screws
  • Plus and minus keys move through 9 speeds
  • Light on/off and dimming without the wall switch
  • White housing that blends with light walls and fans

Where the fan's model label hides

Most ceiling fans carry a model sticker on top of the motor housing, near where the downrod enters. Stand on a sturdy step ladder with the fan off and use a flashlight. The same model number usually appears on the carton and on the first page of the owner's manual, so check those first if climbing is a hassle.

Kids, pets and remotes

Small hands and curious pets love remotes. The wall holder keeps the handset off the coffee table and out of reach. If a remote gets chewed or dropped and stops working, check the battery contacts first; a bent contact is often an easy fix.

Before you order

  • Not for AC-motor fans or 6-speed DC fans.
  • It does not connect to smart-home hubs or apps.
  • If your old remote shows a number other than TR198B, contact us at (816) 586-8457 before you order.

Setup & Pairing

Setup takes about a minute and needs no tools.

  1. Put two fresh AAA batteries in the TR198B replacement remote and leave the battery door off for now.
  2. Push the slide switch inside the battery area to setting 1.
  3. Switch the fan's power off, either at the wall or at the breaker panel, and turn it back on.
  4. Within 30 seconds, press and release the Learn button inside the battery compartment.
  5. Success looks like a light flash plus turning blades. Otherwise, repeat from the top.

Tip: fresh batteries make the first try far more likely to work.

In the box: TR198B replacement remote, wall mount with screws. Add two AAA batteries.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if the number on my TR198B label is worn off?

Check the fan manual or box, or send a photo of the old handset to info@fanremotes.com and we will help you confirm it.

Why does my fan light flash during setup?

The flash, along with the blades starting, means the receiver has learned the remote. Pairing is done.

What is breeze mode?

It varies the fan speed on its own like a natural breeze. There are 3 breeze settings to pick from.

What batteries go in it?

Two AAA batteries. They are not included, so grab a fresh pair before you set it up.

Can I pair two remotes to two fans in one room?

Yes. Pair one fan at a time, with power to the other fan turned off at its breaker during setup.

Is the white TR198B different inside?

No. The white version has the same 9-speed controls and Learn-button pairing; only the housing color differs.

When will my order ship?

In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.

What is your return policy?

You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Every product we sell comes with a 1-year warranty against defects. If it fails because of a defect, contact us and we’ll send a replacement.
