About the Home Decorators Collection AM686-BN Remote

If the remote for your AM686-BN went missing in a move or simply quit, here is the fix. Our replacement runs the Home Decorators Collection Merienda with nine speeds, reverse, a dimmable light and timer.

Check the model sticker on top of the motor housing, or the box and manual, and make sure it reads AM686-BN. Setup is a power-cycle and one press of the Learn button.

Covered porches and patios

Indoor/outdoor fans live in damp places, but the handset does not need to. Mount the wall holder inside the door or under the deepest part of the cover, away from rain and sprinklers. Wipe off condensation if the remote does get wet, and remove the batteries to dry it fully.

Testing after setup

Once paired, run a quick test. Step through a few speeds, try reverse while the fan is on a low speed, dim the light up and down, and set the shortest timer. If each function responds, you are done. Snap the battery door on and put the handset on its holder.

Setup & Pairing

Keep the fan in sight so you can see it confirm the pairing.

Load the remote with two AAA batteries and set the cover aside.
Make sure the little slide switch in the battery bay reads 1.
Switch the fan's power off, either at the wall or at the breaker panel, and turn it back on.
Press the Learn button once, within 30 seconds of power coming back.
Success looks like a light flash plus turning blades. Otherwise, repeat from the top.
Snap the battery door back on and test speed, light and reverse.

Tip: leave the wall switch on after pairing so the receiver keeps power.

In the box: one AM686-BN replacement remote plus a wall mount holder and screws (AAA batteries sold separately).
