About the Home Decorators Collection YG493OD-BN Remote

If the remote for your YG493OD-BN went missing in a move or simply quit, here is the fix. Our replacement runs the Home Decorators Collection Kensgrove 72 in. with nine speeds, reverse, a dimmable light and timer.

Your fan's Brushed Nickel finish helps confirm the model, but the label is the final word. It should show YG493OD-BN. Once it matches, setup takes about a minute. This handset pairs with the UC786N-12 receiver found in the Kensgrove 72 in.. Because the YG493OD-BN is rated for indoor/outdoor use, keep the handset itself in a dry spot.

Forward and reverse from the handset
No DIP switches: power-cycle, press Learn, done
Light control with smooth dimming
Natural-breeze mode with 3 choices
Fan-off timer for 2, 4 or 8 hours

Plus and minus buttons

Speed control on this handset uses plus and minus buttons rather than one key per speed. Each tap moves the fan one step, and holding the button steps through the speeds. It feels different from a three-button remote at first, but it quickly becomes second nature.

DC motors only

This handset talks to receivers built for 9-speed DC-motor fans. It cannot run AC-motor fans or 6-speed DC fans, because those use different receivers and signals. If your fan manual mentions a three-speed pull chain or a 6-speed remote, this is not the right match for it.

Before you order

For 9-speed DC fans only. It will not run AC fans or 6-speed DC fans.
It does not replace the RH787T, which is a different 6-speed remote.

Setup & Pairing

No DIP switches to set. Follow these steps with the fan in view.

Install two AAA cells in the remote; you will need the open compartment for the next steps.
Make sure the little slide switch in the battery bay reads 1.
Turn the fan off at the wall switch or breaker, wait a few seconds, then switch it back on.
Before 30 seconds pass, give the Learn button in the compartment one press.
When the light flashes and the blades begin to spin, pairing is complete. No response? Start over from the power-cycle step.

Tip: stand where you can see the fan before restoring power.

In the box: YG493OD-BN replacement remote and a wall holder with screws. Two AAA batteries needed, not included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this replacement remote for the Home Decorators Collection YG493OD-BN fit my ceiling fan?

It fits the 1 model listed under Compatible Models on this page. If your model isn’t listed, call us at (816) 586-8457 and we’ll check for you.

Is this the remote that came with the YG493OD-BN?

It is a Comfort Direct replacement that works like the original 9-speed remote for the YG493OD-BN.

How many fan speeds does it have?

Nine speeds plus off. Use the plus and minus buttons, or hold one to step through.

Where is the model number on the YG493OD-BN?

Look on top of the motor housing near the downrod, in the owner's manual or on the original box.

Can it control a 6-speed DC fan?

No. 6-speed DC fans use a different receiver, so this 9-speed remote will not run them.

What timer settings are there?

The fan-off timer can stop the fan after 2, 4 or 8 hours.

How long does pairing take?

About a minute. Set the slide switch to 1, power-cycle the fan, and press Learn within 30 seconds.

When will my order ship?

In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.

What is your return policy?

You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.
