Once the light blinks twice, run a quick check. Press 1, 2 and 3 and listen for each speed change, then press 0 to stop the blades. Tap the light button for on and off, and hold it to watch the light dim. If any step doesn't respond, repeat pairing before assuming something is faulty.

Here's the quick way to pair it.

Start with the battery: one 12V A23, positive end up toward the top of the new remote. Close the cover.
Have other fans in the house? Keep them switched off during pairing so only this one learns the remote.
Switch the fan off at the wall, or at the breaker if it has no switch, wait a few seconds, and switch it back on.
Within half a minute, hold 0 for about 5 seconds; the fan light blinks twice to show it's paired.
Check the speeds with 3, 2 and 1, and hold the light button to see it dim.
