About the Minka-Aire WC116 Wall Control

Our replacement for the WC116 restores one slider for fan speed and one for the light at the wall. Remove the wall plate and look at the body of the old wall control: the WC116 number is on its label. WC116 controls came in two wiring styles. If yours is a 3-wire fan and light control (hot, fan and light), this one works in its place; a 2-wire, fan-only WC116 is not a match.

Fan load limit

This control handles fans that draw up to 1.25 A at 120 V. Check the motor label before you install, especially on a larger fan.

About 2-wire controls

Some fan-only wall controls use just two wires: hot in and fan out. This dual-slide control needs three wires, hot, fan and light, so it doesn't replace a 2-wire, fan-only control.

Before you order

Not for DC-motor fans, Hunter Original series fans, or shaded-pole and non-reversible motors.
The dimmer is rated for incandescent fan lights. We don't guarantee LED dimming, and it is not for CFL bulbs or fluorescent fixtures.
Do not use it on an outlet, a motor appliance or a transformer-fed light.

Setup & Pairing

Take a photo of the old wiring before you disconnect anything.

Turn the circuit off at the breaker panel before anything else.
Set the fan's pull chain to High and turn the light chain on. Leave them that way.
Confirm separate fan and light wires run from the box to the ceiling; a single shared wire needs extra wiring first.
Wire-nut the line, fan and light leads to the matching house wires, then attach any ground wire to the ground screw.
Mount the control in the wall box with the two screws, reuse your existing wall plate, and turn the breaker back on.

Test the circuit with a voltage tester before touching any wire.

My fan and light run off one wall switch. Will this work?

Not without extra wiring. The fan and the light each need their own wire from the wall box up to the ceiling.

Will it fit a Hunter Original or a DC fan?

No. It is for standard reversible AC fans only.

Will it fit my wall box?

It fits a standard single-gang wall-switch box with a 3-wire hookup.

Do I need an electrician?

If you've replaced a wall switch before, you can likely do this yourself with the breaker off. If the wiring is unclear or looks damaged, hire a licensed electrician.

Is there a warranty?
