About the Fanimation CHQ9053T Wall Control

If your CHQ9053T has quit, this wall control takes over with independent up-light and down-light dimming plus six fan speeds. With the wall plate off, CHQ9053T is printed on the label on the side or back of the old wall control. The original has separate up-light and down-light buttons, which this version matches.

Check the label on your old wall control: if it reads CHQ9053T, this is the one you need. After wiring, a press of SET starts a short learning run, and then it's ready.

Summer and winter direction

In summer, run the blades counterclockwise, seen from below, so the fan pushes air straight down for a cooling breeze. In winter, switch to clockwise on a low speed. That draws air up and moves the warm air near the ceiling down along the walls without a draft. A good habit is to flip direction when you change the thermostat from cooling to heating.

Two lights, set separately

The up light and the down light each have their own control and their own dimming. Wash the ceiling with soft light from above and keep the down light low, or the reverse, whatever suits the room.

Before you order

Not the same as Fanimation TW306, TW406 or TW407 controls. Match the number on your old control.
Needs a neutral wire in the wall box.

Setup & Pairing

You'll need a neutral wire in the box; check before you start.

Switch off the breaker for the fan.
Take off the faceplate and put in the 12V A23 battery.
Set the code switches on the control (and on the fan's receiver, if it has them) to the same code.
Wire it in, fasten it to the box and restore power.
Inside 60 seconds of power coming back, hold SET for 1 to 5 seconds.
The fan runs in both directions for about 5 minutes and then stops. Pairing is complete.
After a blade change, run this setup again.

Will it run an AC-motor fan?

No. It's for DC-motor fans only.

Why does my fan spin both ways for a few minutes after setup?

That is normal. The fan is learning the blades. It stops after about 5 minutes and is then ready to use.

Which direction should the fan turn in winter?

Clockwise on a low speed, seen from below. In summer, run it counterclockwise for a cooling downdraft.
