Will This Wall Control Fit?

This wall control is made to replace the UC9031. Check the label on your old wall control — if it reads UC9031, this is the one you need.

About the Hampton Bay UC9031 Wall Control

When your UC9031 wall control wears out, this replacement brings back four speeds and dimming in a slim dual-slide design. With the wall plate off, UC9031 is printed on the label on the side or back of the old wall control. The original is a slim dual-slide control, about 4.5 by 2.75 inches, with one slider for the fan and one for the light.

If UC9031 is printed on your old control, you're in the right place. It goes in place of a standard wall switch with the breaker off.

  • Four fan speeds: High, Medium-High, Medium and Low
  • Second slider dims the light
  • No receiver needed
  • Sits just 0.63 inches off the wall

Four speeds from a 3-speed fan

The fan slider gives High, Medium-High, Medium and Low, plus Off. Even if your fan's pull chain had only three speeds, this control adds a fourth step.

Not for remote receivers

A hard-wired slide control sends variable power straight to the motor. If your fan has a remote receiver installed, it needs a remote or wall transmitter made for that receiver instead, not this control.

Before you order

  • Needs three-conductor wiring: hot in, plus one wire each to the fan and the light. A single switched wire will not work.
  • Fan load limit is 1.25 A. Check that your fan motor draws 1.25 A or less.
  • Not for fans run by a remote receiver. A hard-wired slide control should not feed a fan that has a remote receiver installed.

Setup & Pairing

Plan on about half an hour, and have a voltage tester handy.

  1. Safety first: turn off power at the breaker, not just the wall switch.
  2. Set the fan chain on high and the light chain on.
  3. Take out the old switch and connect the hot, fan and light wires to the control; you need three conductors to the ceiling.
  4. Mount the control in the wall box, attach the wall plate, and turn the breaker back on.

Tuck the wires neatly into the box so the control sits flat.

In the box: UC9031 replacement dual-slide fan and light wall control, mounting hardware and wiring instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need separate wires for the fan and the light?

Yes. It needs three-conductor wiring: the hot wire in, plus one wire to the fan and one to the light.

Can I use LED bulbs?

The dimmer is rated for incandescent fan lights up to 300 W. We can't promise smooth dimming with every LED bulb, and CFL bulbs should not be used.

How much fan can it handle?

Up to 1.25 A at 120 V, which covers most standard AC ceiling fans. Check the label on your fan motor to be sure.

My fan only has 3 speeds. Will it work?

Yes. This control gives a 3-speed fan four speeds.

Does it work with a remote receiver?

No. It controls the fan directly through the house wiring. A fan with a remote receiver needs a transmitter made for that receiver.

When will my order ship?

In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.

What is your return policy?

You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.
