About the Universal 41180 Wall Control
Swap a worn 41180 for this hard-wired control and get four speeds and dimming in a slim dual-slide design. Remove the wall plate and look at the body of the old wall control: the 41180 number is on its label. Look for two sliders in a single-gang box: fan speed and a light dimmer.
This page is for the 41180. It goes in place of a standard wall switch with the breaker off.
- Turns a 3-speed fan into a 4-speed fan
- 4 speeds plus Off
- Separate full-range light dimmer up to 300 W
LED bulbs and dimming
If the light flickers or buzzes when dimmed, first check that every bulb is marked dimmable. Mixing bulb brands in one fixture can make them dim unevenly, so use a matched set. Some very low-wattage LEDs won't dim smoothly at the bottom of the range. This dimmer is rated for incandescent fan lights, so smooth LED dimming isn't guaranteed, and CFL bulbs should not be used.
Four speeds from a 3-speed fan
The fan slider gives High, Medium-High, Medium and Low, plus Off. Even if your fan's pull chain had only three speeds, this control adds a fourth step.
Before you order
- Not for fans run by a remote receiver. A hard-wired slide control should not feed a fan that has a remote receiver installed.
- The dimmer is rated for incandescent fan lights. We don't guarantee LED dimming, and it is not for CFL bulbs.
Setup & Pairing
Take a photo of the old wiring before you disconnect anything.
- Turn the circuit off at the breaker panel.
- Set the fan's pull chain to the highest speed and turn the light chain on.
- Take out the old switch and connect the hot, fan and light wires to the control; you need three conductors to the ceiling.
- Seat the control, fit the wall plate and switch the breaker on.
Test the circuit with a voltage tester before touching any wire.
In the box: 41180 replacement dual-slide fan and light wall control with mounting hardware and a wiring guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use LED bulbs?
The dimmer is rated for incandescent fan lights up to 300 W. We can't promise smooth dimming with every LED bulb, and CFL bulbs should not be used.
How much fan can it handle?
Up to 1.25 A at 120 V, which covers most standard AC ceiling fans. Check the label on your fan motor to be sure.
Why does the light flicker when I dim it?
Usually the bulbs are not dimmable, or different bulb types are mixed in one fixture. This dimmer is rated for incandescent fan lights, so smooth LED dimming isn't guaranteed, and CFL bulbs should not be used.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. It comes with a 1-year warranty against defects.
Where do I find my fan's model number?
Look for a sticker on top of the motor housing, or check the owner's manual or the carton. Store order history from Lowe's or Home Depot also lists it.
When will my order ship?
In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.
What is your return policy?
You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.
