Replace the UC7051FMRX in your fan's canopy and get three fan speeds, reverse and down-light dimming. UC7051FMRX is printed on the label of the receiver itself, which sits in the fan's canopy or switch housing. It's the box in the canopy or switch housing that the remote talks to.

Finding your fan's model number

Most ceiling fans carry a model sticker on top of the motor housing. You can usually read it from a ladder once the canopy cover is slid down, or with the light kit removed. The same number is in the owner's manual and on the carton. If the fan came from Lowe's or Home Depot, your online order history shows the model and item number too. Take a phone photo of the sticker so you have it next time.

Here's the swap, step by step.

Switch the breaker for the fan off.
Open the remote's battery compartment and note the DIP switch positions.
Set the receiver's DIP switches to match, switch for switch.
Plug the receiver into the existing harness, or wire it the same way, and tuck it in place.
Restore power and test each button on the remote.

Take a photo of the old wiring before you disconnect it.
