About the Hampton Bay CHQ8BT7096T Remote

A dropped, chewed or simply worn-out CHQ8BT7096T doesn't mean a new fan. This remote restores an LCD display, Fan Auto and a timer key. You'll usually find CHQ8BT7096T printed after the letters FCC on a sticker on the back, or molded into the plastic beside the battery. Note that some Windward III remotes with this label have a red or orange light button and pair with an up/down-light receiver; those need a different remote and receiver kit, so check the light button color first.

It's made to stand in for the CHQ8BT7096T on Hampton Bay fans. Setup is four DIP switches and four AAA batteries.

Reading the display

The LCD on the front shows three things: the temperature you set, the current room temperature and the battery level. If the display reads in Celsius and you want Fahrenheit, press the small F/C button in the pin-hole on the back with a pen tip.

Four AAA batteries

The LCD and thermostat need a bit more power than a basic remote, so this one takes four 1.5V AAA batteries. Use a fresh matched set, and watch the battery level on the display so you can swap them before the remote fades.

Setup & Pairing

If your old remote is still around, setup takes a couple of minutes.

Shut off the fan's circuit at the breaker.
Slide off the battery cover on the new remote. The 4 DIP switches are inside the battery compartment.
Write down the up/down positions from the old remote or the canopy receiver.
Copy that pattern onto the new remote, load four AAA batteries and close it up.
Turn the power back on and test the fan speeds and light.

Once it works, mount the wall bracket and keep the remote on it between uses.
