Will This Remote Fit?

This remote is made to replace the CHQ7096T. Check the label on your old remote (often inside the battery cover) — if it reads CHQ7096T, this is the one you need.

About the Hampton Bay CHQ7096T Remote

Rather than climbing up to the pull chains, swap in this remote for your missing CHQ7096T and bring back three speeds, reverse and an LCD temperature display. Flip the old remote over: CHQ7096T sits after the FCC mark on the back label, sometimes inside the battery door instead. Check the buttons on your old remote: this version has a For/Rev key and no Fan Timer key, plus an LCD temperature display.

Check the label on your old remote: if it reads CHQ7096T, this is the one you need. No programming: set the switches to match the receiver.

  • 4 DIP switches, 16 codes
  • Wall bracket with 2 screws
  • Runs on four AAA batteries (not included)

If reverse doesn't respond

Remote reverse only works when the fan's receiver and motor support it. Some fans need a reverse module for the key to work. If yours doesn't respond, you can always use the slide switch on the motor housing.

Windward II and Covington fans

Windward II 54-in and Covington 54-in fans use this reverse remote with a thermostatic receiver. Check that your old remote has the For/Rev key, then copy its four DIP switches.

Before you order

  • Not for Hampton Bay Windward III fans that came with a remote with a red or orange light button. This remote will not run the light on those fans.
  • Down-light dimming only. If your fan has both an up-light and a down-light, this remote can't control them separately.

Setup & Pairing

Have a pen or small screwdriver handy for the DIP switches.

  1. Turn off power to the fan at the breaker.
  2. Slide off the battery cover on the new remote. The 4 DIP switches are inside the battery compartment.
  3. Check the DIP switches on your old remote, or on the receiver in the fan canopy, and note the up/down pattern.
  4. Set the new remote's 4 switches to the exact same pattern, then put in 4 AAA batteries and close the cover.
  5. Turn the power back on and test the fan speeds and light.

If a neighbor's fan or your garage door reacts, change the pattern on both the receiver and the remote.

In the box: CHQ7096T replacement remote with reverse key, wall mount bracket and 2 wall mount screws.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does it take four batteries?

The LCD display and thermostat need extra power. Four AAA batteries cover it; they're not included.

Why doesn't the reverse key change my fan's direction?

Remote reverse only works on fans whose receiver and motor support it. Some fans need a reverse module. You can always use the slide switch on the motor housing.

Does it dim the light?

Yes. Press and hold the light key to dim. It dims the down-light only and can't control a separate up-light.

What if my old remote shows a different number?

Check the label on the back and inside the battery cover. If it doesn't match this page, search our store for that number or contact us at (816) 586-8457 or info@fanremotes.com.

Can one remote run two fans?

We recommend one remote per fan. Give each fan its own so one button never moves both, and label each one with its room.

When will my order ship?

In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.

What is your return policy?

You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Every product we sell comes with a 1-year warranty against defects. If it fails because of a defect, contact us and we’ll send a replacement.
