About the Fanimation E161552 Wall Control

When the E161552 on your wall stops working, you lose easy control of the fan. This replacement brings back a dimmable light, six fan speeds and reverse. Remove the wall plate and look at the body of the old wall control: the E161552 number is on its label. It sits in a single-gang wall box and controls a DC fan with one light.

Match the number first: this page is for the E161552. After wiring, a press of SET starts a short learning run, and then it's ready.

A neutral wire is required

This control is powered from line and neutral in the wall box, with one black lead to the fan motor. Many older switch boxes have only a hot wire. Check for a white neutral bundle in the back of the box before you order.

Six DC speeds

Six speeds run from a whisper-quiet minimum up to high, in smaller steps than a 3-speed AC fan. Add reverse, and you can set the airflow for any season from the wall.

Setup & Pairing

Plan for the 5-minute learning run at the end.

Switch off the breaker for the fan.
Remove the faceplate and install the 12V A23 battery.
Match the control's code switches to the fan's receiver, if the receiver has switches.
Wire it in, fasten it to the box and restore power.
Within 60 seconds of restoring power, press and hold SET for 1-5 seconds.
The fan will spin both ways for about 5 minutes, then stop; that means it's paired.
After a blade change, run this setup again.

Test the circuit with a voltage tester before touching any wire.

What is the battery for?

One 12V A23 battery sits under the faceplate and powers the control's transmitter.

Why does my fan spin both ways for a few minutes after setup?

That is normal. The fan is learning the blades. It stops after about 5 minutes and is then ready to use.

Will it run an AC-motor fan?

No. It's for DC-motor fans only.

Is this the original Fanimation part?

No. It's a new Comfort Direct replacement built to work like the original wall control, and it carries our 1-year warranty.

Where do I find my fan's model number?

Look for a sticker on top of the motor housing, or check the owner's manual or the carton. Store order history from Lowe's or Home Depot also lists it.
