About the Hampton Bay TX028C-S Remote

Your TX028C-S went missing or quit, and now the fan only runs from the wall. This Comfort Direct replacement puts high, medium, low and off back in your hand, along with light on/off, dimming and color temperature on color-changing LED fans.

Turn your old remote over and read its label. If it reads TX028C-S, with -S as the final letter, you are in the right place. Pairing uses four DIP switches on 304 MHz.

Dead remote or failed receiver?

If nothing happens when you press a button, start with the battery and the code. A fresh A23 and a re-checked switch pattern solve most problems. If the fan still won't respond, the receiver in the canopy may have failed, and a new remote alone won't fix that.

Check the button layout

Hold your old remote next to the photos on this page. This one has high, medium, low and off, a light button and a color temperature button. If yours has extra keys, like a separate up-light or a timer, it is a different remote and we can help you find the right one.

Before you order

Remotes ending in -L, -R, -LR or another letter look alike but have different buttons and switches. Your old label should end in -S.
Not a universal remote. It works only with fans that have the matching 304 MHz DIP-switch receiver.

Setup & Pairing

Slide the battery cover off the back of your new TX028C-S remote to uncover the DIP switches.
Copy the pattern of switches 1 through 4 from the old remote, or from the receiver in the canopy (a very small screwdriver opens its box).
Code unknown? Set one pattern, press a button, and move on to the next until the fan reacts. There are 16 in all.
Set switch 5 to off if your light isn't dimmable, which stops flicker.
Insert one 12V A23 battery (sold separately), close the cover, then try each speed and the light button.
If two fans hang near each other, set them to different patterns so they don't respond together.

In the box: TX028C-S replacement remote, wall mount holder, 2 mounting screws and a programming manual. Battery not included.

Does it come with a wall holder?

Yes. A wall mount holder and two mounting screws are in the box, along with the programming manual.

The fan doesn't respond. What should I try first?

Put in a fresh A23 battery, make sure the wall switch is on, and recheck that switches 1 to 4 match the receiver exactly.

How big is the remote?

About 2 x 6 x 1 in., so it fits easily in a hand or in the included wall holder.

Can I keep a spare remote on the same code?

Yes. Two remotes set to the same code will both run the fan, which is handy for a bedside and a wall holder.

What comes in the box?
