Will This Remote Fit?

This remote is made to replace the 92217. Check the label on your old remote (often inside the battery cover) — if it reads 92217, this is the one you need.

About the Hampton Bay 92217 Remote

When the remote for a 92217 fan breaks, you lose the speeds, the light and the dimming in one go. This Comfort Direct remote gives them back: high, medium, low, off, light on/off and press-and-hold dimming.

Match 92217 to the label on the fan or the original carton before ordering. Then set the four code switches under the battery cover to the same up/down pattern as the fan's receiver.

  • One light button for on, off and dimming
  • Three fan speeds (high, medium, low) plus a dedicated off button
  • Radio signal, so there is no need to aim
  • Dimming can be switched off so plain lights don't flicker

Caring for the remote

Wipe the remote with a dry or slightly damp cloth, and skip sprays that can seep under the buttons. Keep it in the holder when not in use and away from pets that chew. If a button sticks, a cotton swab with a little rubbing alcohol around the edge usually frees it.

Dimming with press and hold

Tap the light button once to switch the light on or off. To dim, hold the button down and watch the light fade, then let go when the brightness looks right. Short holds are easier to control than long ones if you only want a slight change.

Before you order

  • Hampton Bay and Home Decorators Collection use several different remotes, so the label on your old remote is the surest match.
  • Compare your old remote with the photos on this page, or email info@fanremotes.com with your fan's model number and we'll confirm the fit.

Setup & Pairing

  1. Open the battery compartment on the new remote; the small switch bank sits inside.
  2. Set switch 5 to off if your light isn't dimmable, which stops flicker.
  3. Line up switches 1 to 4 with the code from your old remote, flipping each one until the two match exactly.
  4. Code unknown? Set one pattern, press a button, and move on to the next until the fan reacts. There are 16 in all.
  5. Fit a 12V A23 battery, snap the cover back on and test the fan and the light.

In the box: 92217 replacement remote; wall mount holder; two mounting screws; programming manual. Add your own 12V A23 battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which way a switch is set?

The switch bank is marked with an ON side. Note whether each switch points toward ON or away from it, and copy that exactly.

Will one remote run two of my fans?

Only if both fans share the same DIP code. Give each fan and its remote its own code so each remote runs just one fan.

Do I need any tools?

Not for basic setup. A very small screwdriver helps if you read the code from the receiver, and a regular screwdriver mounts the wall holder.

Does it dim the light?

Yes. Press and hold the light button and let go when the brightness looks right. A quick tap just turns the light on or off.

Can I keep a spare remote on the same code?

Yes. Two remotes set to the same code will both run the fan, which is handy for a bedside and a wall holder.

When will my order ship?

In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.

What is your return policy?

You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Every product we sell comes with a 1-year warranty against defects. If it fails because of a defect, contact us and we’ll send a replacement.
