About the Hampton Bay 58928 Remote

Polished nickel and wood give the 58928 a warm look on a porch or in a great room. If its remote has broken or vanished, this replacement brings back high, medium, low, off and press-and-hold dimming.

This remote is made for the Hampton Bay 58928. Check for 58928 on the motor housing label, then set the four code switches to the same pattern as your receiver.

Do you need a ladder?

Most setups never need one. If you still have the old remote, copy its switches at the kitchen table. Only go up to the canopy when the old code is unknown and trial and error hasn't worked. When you do, switch off the breaker first, not just the wall switch.

Use a plain wall switch, not a dimmer

This fan should be wired to a plain on/off wall switch, not a wall dimmer. The remote already dims the light, and the receiver in the canopy needs steady power to listen for it. Leave the wall switch on and let the remote do the work.

Setup & Pairing

1. Turn the new remote over and take off the battery door to reach the code switches.
2. Set switches 1 to 4 to the same up/down pattern as your old remote.
3. No record of the old code? Work through the 16 combinations one at a time until the fan responds.
4. Insert one 12V A23 battery (sold separately), close the cover, then try each speed and the light button.
5. Check switch 5: on allows dimming, off is for lights that can't dim.
