Will This Remote Fit?

This remote is made to replace the 2AQZU-18016. Check the label on your old remote (often inside the battery cover) — if it reads 2AQZU-18016, this is the one you need.

About the Hampton Bay 2AQZU-18016 Remote

A dropped, chewed or simply worn-out 2AQZU-18016 doesn't mean a new fan. This remote restores four speeds, Natural Breeze, dimming and a delay timer. You'll usually find 2AQZU-18016 printed after the letters FCC on a sticker on the back, or molded into the plastic beside the battery. It has four fan speeds, Natural Breeze and a light key; the 3-speed version is a different remote.

We built this one for fans that shipped with the 2AQZU-18016. Set four switches, add two AAA batteries and test.

  • Dims the light
  • Delay-off timer
  • Simple DIP-switch setup
  • Wall mount with screws included

Before you climb the ladder

If you need to read the receiver, turn the fan off at the breaker, not just the wall switch. Use a sturdy step ladder and have someone hold it and pass you tools. Lower the canopy cover carefully, since the fan's weight hangs on the bracket, not the cover. Snap a photo of the receiver label and switches, then close everything before power goes back on.

Not the 3-speed version

A 3-speed remote, the TR240A, looks similar but is a different remote. This one has four speeds. Check your old remote's number before you order.

Before you order

  • Not the same as the TR240A (3-speed) remote.
  • Not a universal remote and no receiver is included.

Setup & Pairing

Have a pen or small screwdriver handy for the DIP switches.

  1. Shut off the fan's circuit at the breaker.
  2. Open the battery compartment of your old remote and note the up/down pattern of its 4 DIP switches (or check the switches on the receiver in the fan canopy).
  3. Copy that pattern onto this remote's 4 switches.
  4. Install 2 AAA batteries and close the cover.
  5. Turn the power on and try every speed and the light.

If a neighbor's fan or your garage door reacts, change the pattern on both the receiver and the remote.

In the box: 2AQZU-18016 replacement remote, plus a wall mount holder and screws.

Frequently Asked Questions

What batteries?

2 AAA batteries, not included.

Will this replace my Hubspace fan remote?

Yes, if your old remote shows the number on this page. Match the 4 DIP switches to your receiver.

Can I change the code later?

Yes. Set a new pattern on the receiver and on the remote so they match again. That's also the fix if a neighbor's remote moves your fan.

Do I have to point the remote at the fan?

No. It works by radio, so you don't need a clear line of sight. Weak batteries and distance are what limit its reach.

Does it come with a wall holder?

Yes. A wall mount comes in the box so the remote always has a place to go.

When will my order ship?

In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.

What is your return policy?

You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Every product we sell comes with a 1-year warranty against defects. If it fails because of a defect, contact us and we’ll send a replacement.
