About the Harbor Breeze RDS44MBK5LR Receiver

Model RDS44MBK5LR is the 44-in Reidsport fan from Harbor Breeze with a matte black finish. A failed receiver is the usual reason a fan stops answering its remote while the motor itself is fine. This replacement connects with wire nuts and restores three speeds, off and a dimmable light.

DIP-switch remotes are a different system

Some older fan remotes have a row of tiny switches inside the battery cover that must match the receiver. This receiver does not use them. It learns a compatible remote instead, so a DIP-switch remote will not pair with it.

Why receivers wear out

The receiver lives in a warm, tight space above the fan, right next to the motor and light. Years of heat cycles and the occasional power spike take a toll on its parts. That is why a fan with a healthy motor can suddenly stop responding to its remote.

Before you order

It pairs only with learning-code remotes such as our TR214D. DIP-switch remotes will not pair.

Setup & Pairing

Plan on about an hour, most of it spent at the canopy.

Switch off the breaker that feeds the fan, then confirm the power is off.
Lower the canopy and disconnect the old receiver, noting which wire went where.
Hook up the replacement receiver with wire nuts exactly as the old one was wired, then tuck it into the canopy.
Switch off other ceiling fans in the area so they stay out of the pairing.
Restore power, then within about 30 seconds hold the 0 (fan off) button on the remote until the light blinks twice.
Run all three speeds and try the light and dimming.

Tip: keep the old receiver until the new one is working.
