About the Hampton Bay 458611 Receiver

The Windward IV 458611 uses a single-light receiver, and this one is built for exactly that: three fan speeds, off, and one light with dimming. A fan stuck on one speed or ignoring the remote is the classic sign the old receiver has failed.

This page is for the Hampton Bay Windward IV 52-in, model 458611. Check the fan's label, set four DIP switches to match your remote, and connect the wires with the included nuts.

AC motors only

This receiver is built for standard 3-speed AC motors. DC-motor fans use a completely different control system, so it won't work with them.

Adding remote control to a pull-chain fan

This receiver can also add remote control to a standard 3-speed AC fan that only has pull chains, as long as there is room for it in the canopy. Pair it with a matching remote or wall control and you won't need the chains again.

Before you order

This receiver is downlight-only. If your fan has an uplight too, choose our up and down light receiver instead.
Not for timer or thermostat remotes such as the Hampton Bay FAN9T or CHQ7096T. Those fans need a thermostatic receiver.

Setup & Pairing

Switch off the breaker for the fan and lower the canopy.
Copy your remote's switch pattern onto the receiver; the factory setting almost never matches.
Connect the wires with wire nuts: green fan ground to the bare house ground, the receiver's black and white AC-in leads to the house black and white, its white and black motor leads to the fan's white and black wires, and its blue light lead to the fan's blue light wire.
Rest the antenna wire flat on the receiver and fold everything into the canopy.
Refit the canopy, switch the breaker on and check every speed and dimming.

Do I need a new remote too?

Not usually. Your existing remote or wall control will work once the receiver's switches match it, unless the old remote itself is broken.

How do I pair it with my remote?

Set the receiver's four DIP switches to the same pattern as the switches in your remote's battery compartment. No programming is needed.

Will it dim my LED bulbs?

For dimming, use incandescent bulbs or LEDs marked dimmable. CFL bulbs aren't supported, and non-dimmable bulbs may only switch on and off.

Why won't the fan respond after I installed it?

The switches ship in a default position, so the fan won't respond until they match your remote. Recheck all four against the switches in your remote.

My fan only runs on one speed. Will a new receiver fix it?

Usually, yes. A fan stuck on one speed, or one that ignores the remote, almost always points to a failed receiver.
