About the Harbor Breeze 42474 Remote

Harbor Breeze sells the 52-inch Oxford ceiling fan in bronze as model 42474; Lowe's lists it as item 3856480. When its remote goes missing or quits, the fan is stuck on its last setting. This replacement brings back High, Medium and Low, an Off key and a light button. The Oxford 52-in uses an AM-3L receiver, and this remote learns its code, so no new receiver is needed.

About the A23 battery

The A23 is a small 12-volt cell, about as long as a AAA but much thinner. Stores label it A23, 23A or MN21, and you'll find it at hardware stores, pharmacies and online. A AAA will not fit or work in its place. Keep a spare in a kitchen drawer, because a weak A23 is the most common reason a remote of this type stops reaching the fan.

Made for AC fans

This remote is for 3-speed AC fans with a learning-code receiver. DC-motor fans and fans with DIP-switch systems need a different remote. If your fan's manual mentions a DC motor, or your old remote has tiny code switches inside, check with us before you order.

Before you order

A remote marked A25-TX001-R1 looks similar but runs on 315 MHz, so it is not a match.

Setup & Pairing

Have the battery in before you touch the wall switch.

Load the 12V A23 battery and leave the battery cover off so you can reach the Learn button.
Switch off power to the fan at the wall switch or at the breaker.
Turn the power back on.
Press the Learn button in the battery compartment inside that 30-second window.
Watch the fan: it drops to low and the light goes off once it has paired.

Pair again any time you replace the receiver.
