About the Harbor Breeze 42312 Remote

Model 42312 is the matte black version of this 52-inch Harbor Breeze fan, with Mocha and Cocoa blades (Lowe's item 1058592). Without a remote, the integrated LED can't be dimmed and the speed is stuck. Our replacement fixes both from one handheld.

Check that your fan's label says 42312, then pair in about a minute. Cycle the fan's power and, within 30 seconds, hold Learn inside the battery door for roughly 5 seconds. It learns the AT-3D receiver you already have. The High and Low method from the owner's manual works too.

Keeping it out of the couch

Remotes vanish into cushions, under beds and into toy boxes. The wall holder gives this one a fixed spot. Get in the habit of dropping it back in the holder when you leave the room, and you won't be hunting for it again.

Why it doesn't need aiming

The remote talks to the fan on 315 MHz radio, not infrared. You don't need a clear line of sight, so it works from the couch, the bed, or around a corner in an open room. Very thick walls or metal cabinets between you and the fan can cut the range.

Before you order

There is no reverse (fan direction) button on this remote.

Setup & Pairing

Start by loading a 12V A23 battery (sold separately) into the 42312 remote, checking the polarity marks.
Cut power to neighboring fans of the same type first; otherwise they may pair as well.
Flip the fan's circuit off, then on, to open its pairing window.
Before 30 seconds pass, hold down Learn (inside the battery bay) for roughly 5 seconds.
You'll know it worked when the fan comes on low and the light stays off. No response? Power cycle and try again.
Alternate method from some manuals: after power returns, press and hold High and Low at once for 5 seconds.

Tip: if the fan was off for a long time, give it a test on each speed after pairing.

In the box: 42312 replacement remote, wall cradle with mounting screws, instructions. Add one A23 battery.
