About the Harbor Breeze 1596996 Receiver
Lowe's item 1596996 is a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan that came with a remote and a receiver in its canopy. A dead remote with a good battery usually points to the receiver, not the fan. This receiver wires in at the canopy and puts speed and light control back where they belong.
Confirm item 1596996 on your paperwork or box label before you order. Setup is simple: restore power and hold the remote's 0 button.
- Comfort Direct replacement receiver
- Pairs with TR214-series learning remotes
- Three speeds and off from your remote
- Pairs in about 30 seconds by holding one button
Dead remote or failed receiver?
Start with the cheap test. Put a fresh battery in the remote and press a button while watching its indicator light, if it has one. If the remote seems alive but the fan still ignores it, and turning the breaker off and on does nothing, the receiver in the canopy is the part that has failed.
Leave the wall switch on
A remote-controlled fan needs steady power to the receiver. Leave the wall switch on and use the remote for everything. If people in the house tend to flip the switch off, a switch guard or a note on the plate helps keep the remote working.
Before you order
- Check that your old receiver has wire leads, not a square plug, before you order.
- It pairs only with learning-code remotes such as our TR214D. DIP-switch remotes will not pair.
Setup & Pairing
- Start with the breaker: turn it off and check that the fan is dead.
- Drop the canopy, unscrew the wire nuts on the old receiver and note each connection.
- Connect the new receiver with wire nuts the same way the old one was connected.
- Power down any other nearby fans first; otherwise they could pair to the same remote.
- Turn the breaker back on. Within about 30 seconds, press and hold the remote's 0 (fan off) button until the light blinks twice.
- Test each fan speed and the light.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this replacement receiver for the Harbor Breeze 1596996 fit my ceiling fan?
It fits the 1 model listed under Compatible Models on this page. If your model isn’t listed, call us at (816) 586-8457 and we’ll check for you.
Do I need an electrician?
Not usually. If you are comfortable turning off a breaker and using wire nuts, you can do it. If the wiring looks damaged or confusing, call a licensed electrician.
Can I reverse the fan from the remote?
This receiver controls speed and light. If your fan has a direction switch on the motor housing, stop the fan and use that switch.
Which remotes work with it?
It pairs with the TR214D, TR214B, TR214A, KUJCE10311, KUJCE10712, 2AQZU-18018 and 2AQZU-18038 remotes. Other remotes, even on the same frequency, may not work.
Does it come with a remote?
No, this is the receiver only. It pairs with the learning-code remotes listed on this page.
Does the receiver need a battery?
No. The receiver runs on house power. Only the remote uses a battery.
When will my order ship?
In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.
What is your return policy?
You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.
