About the Harbor Breeze 1117028 Receiver
The Harbor Breeze fan sold at Lowe's as item 1117028 runs its remote through a receiver mounted above the fan. A failed receiver is the usual reason a fan stops answering its remote while the motor itself is fine. Swap in this receiver and you get three speeds, off and light dimming back on the remote.
Find item 1117028 on the fan box or receipt and you know this page is for your fan. There are no DIP switches to set; it learns your remote in about 30 seconds.
- Restores remote control without replacing the fan
- Pairs in about 30 seconds by holding one button
- Simple wire-nut hookup
- 3 fan speeds plus off
Don't forget the ground
The green or bare copper ground wire is easy to leave loose when you are focused on the receiver leads. Reconnect it to the bracket or ground screw just as it was before. It does not affect pairing, but it matters for safety.
More than one fan in the house
Learning receivers listen for a remote whenever power returns, so a second fan on at the same time can pair too. Switch off the breakers or wall switches for other nearby fans before you pair. When you are done, label each remote by room so they never get swapped.
Setup & Pairing
The swap is mostly unscrewing and reconnecting a few wires.
- Start with the breaker: turn it off and check that the fan is dead.
- Open the canopy and remove the old receiver, writing down which lead joined which wire.
- Make the same connections with the new receiver, tug-test each wire nut and fold the wires in neatly.
- Make sure other fans with learning receivers are switched off, so only this one learns the remote.
- Turn the breaker back on. Within about 30 seconds, press and hold the remote's 0 (fan off) button until the light blinks twice.
- Test each fan speed and the light.
Tip: keep the old receiver until the new one is working.
