Will This Remote Fit?
This remote is made to replace the CHQ8BT7096T. Check the label on your old remote (often inside the battery cover) — if it reads CHQ8BT7096T, this is the one you need.

About the Hampton Bay CHQ8BT7096T Remote
Lost or broken CHQ8BT7096T? This new remote gets your Hampton Bay fan back under control with an LCD display, Fan Auto and a For/Rev key. CHQ8BT7096T is an FCC registration number, so look for it right after the letters FCC on the back label or inside the battery compartment of your old remote. Some Windward III remotes with this label have a red or orange light button and pair with an up/down-light receiver; those need a different remote and receiver kit, so check the light button color first.
We built this one for fans that shipped with the CHQ8BT7096T. It pairs with 4 DIP switches matched to your receiver.
- LCD shows set and room temperature
- Light Delay turns the light off after 3 minutes
- Pairs with 4 DIP switches
Getting full range
This remote talks to the fan by radio, so you don't need to aim it, and the signal passes through the canopy and light glass. Range drops as the battery weakens, and large metal objects between you and the fan can cut it down. If it only works up close, a new battery fixes it most of the time.
Four AAA batteries
The LCD and thermostat need a bit more power than a basic remote, so this one takes four 1.5V AAA batteries. Use a fresh matched set, and watch the battery level on the display so you can swap them before the remote fades.
Before you order
- Down-light dimming only. If your fan has both an up-light and a down-light, this remote can't control them separately.
Setup & Pairing
No learning step or app is needed; the code is set by switches.
- Shut off the fan's circuit at the breaker.
- Remove the new remote's battery cover; the four DIP switches sit inside.
- Note the switch pattern on your old remote; without it, read the receiver in the canopy.
- Copy that pattern onto the new remote, load four AAA batteries and close it up.
- Restore power at the breaker and try each speed and the light.
If nothing happens, recheck that every switch matches; one switch off is enough to stop it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What battery does it take?
Four 1.5V AAA batteries, not included.
What does Light Delay do?
It turns the light off on its own 3 minutes after you press it.
Why doesn't the reverse key change my fan's direction?
Remote reverse only works on fans whose receiver and motor support it. Some fans need a reverse module. You can always use the slide switch on the motor housing.
Why does the fan respond only some of the time?
Start with a fresh battery and try from closer. If it keeps happening, set a new DIP switch pattern on both the receiver and the remote.
Why does the light flicker when I dim it?
Usually the bulbs are not dimmable, or different bulb types are mixed in one fixture. Incandescent bulbs dim the smoothest, and this remote dims the down-light only.
When will my order ship?
In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.
What is your return policy?
You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Every product we sell comes with a 1-year warranty against defects. If it fails because of a defect, contact us and we’ll send a replacement.
