About the Home Decorators Collection TR198A Remote

Your TR198A remote went missing or quit, and the fan is stuck on its last setting. Our replacement brings back 9-speed control, forward and reverse, light dimming, a 2, 4 or 8-hour timer and breeze modes.

TR198A is printed on the label of the handset that came with select Home Decorators Collection fans, such as some Marlon 66 in. models. Check inside the battery door. If it says TR198A, order with confidence. Pairing uses the Learn button, with no DIP switches.

Signs of weak batteries

Weak batteries rarely fail all at once. The first clues are a shorter range, buttons that need a second press, or a light that responds slowly to dimming. When you notice any of those, replace both AAA cells before you assume the remote or the fan has a fault.

One remote for each fan

Every fan in your home should have its own handset. Sharing one remote between two fans gets confusing, because each receiver learns its own pairing and a single handset may end up running both. Label the back of each remote with the room name so they never get mixed up.

Setup & Pairing

Keep the fan in sight so you can see it confirm the pairing.

Put two fresh AAA batteries in the TR198A replacement remote and leave the battery door off for now.
Check the slide switch next to the batteries and set it to 1.
Switch the fan's power off, either at the wall or at the breaker panel, and turn it back on.
Within 30 seconds, press and release the Learn button inside the battery compartment.
When the light flashes and the blades begin to spin, pairing is complete. No response? Start over from the power-cycle step.
Marlon fans with an MR205A-D receiver give you up to one minute after power returns instead of 30 seconds.

Tip: mount the wall holder after you confirm the remote works.

How do I pair the TR198A replacement with my fan?

Set the slide switch in the battery compartment to 1, turn the fan's power off and back on, then press Learn within 30 seconds. The light flashes and the blades start when it has paired.

Will it fix a fan that hums or wobbles?

No. Hum and wobble come from the motor, blades or mounting. The remote only sends speed, direction, light and timer commands.

What if the fan does not respond after pairing?

Check that the wall switch is on and the slide switch is on 1, put in fresh batteries, and repeat the steps. If it still will not respond, contact us at (816) 586-8457.
