Make sure the little slide switch in the battery bay reads 1.
Cut power to the fan with the wall switch or breaker, then restore it.
Before 30 seconds pass, give the Learn button in the compartment one press.
Watch for the light to flash and the blades to start turning. That means it has paired; if not, repeat the steps.

Tip: fresh batteries make the first try far more likely to work. Tip: leave the wall switch on after pairing so the receiver keeps power.
