About the Hampton Bay 871861 Receiver

A Renwick 871861 that only runs on one speed, or ignores every button, usually has a worn receiver in the canopy. This replacement takes over fan speed and off, plus the uplight and the downlight, each with on/off and dimming.

It is made for the Hampton Bay Renwick 52-in, model 871861. Confirm the model on the fan's label, then set four DIP switches to the pattern in your remote's battery compartment.

Signs the receiver has failed

A receiver usually announces its end in one of two ways: the fan sticks on a single speed, or it ignores the remote completely. If the remote's battery is fresh and its switches haven't moved, the receiver in the canopy is the likely culprit.

Three switches or four?

Some older receivers have only three code switches. This one has four, so look at your old receiver and your remote before you start. If your remote has four switches, simply copy all four to the new receiver.

Before you order

Not for timer or thermostat remotes, and not for DC-motor fans. It is built for standard 3-speed AC motors.

Setup & Pairing

Before you start, take a photo of the old wiring.

Shut off the breaker for the fan and drop the canopy so you can reach the receiver.
Snap a picture of the old wiring before you disconnect anything.
Set the four DIP switches on the new receiver to the same pattern as the switches in your remote's battery compartment or on your wall control.
Wire it in: AC-in leads to the house black and white, motor leads to the fan's black and white motor wires, and each light lead to the downlight or uplight wire marked on the receiver. Cap unused light leads.
Keep the antenna wire flat on top, push the receiver and wires up into the canopy, then close it up and switch the breaker on.
Test each fan speed, the downlight and the uplight from your remote.
