About the Honeywell 50609 Remote

Model 50609 is the bronze version of Honeywell's 62-inch Xerxes fan. When its remote goes missing, there's no easy way to change the speed or dim the light. Our replacement learns the fan's receiver and restores three speeds, off and dimming.

Confirm that the model on your fan's sticker or manual reads 50609. Then switch the fan off and on and, within 30 seconds, hold the Learn button until the fan starts on low with the light off. The High and Low method from the owner's manual works too.

Find your fan's model number

Most ceiling fans carry a model sticker on top of the motor housing, near the downrod, so you may need a step ladder and a flashlight. Turn the fan off and let the blades stop first. The owner's manual and the original box list the model too, and a Lowe's receipt shows the item number.

Picking a speed

High moves the most air for hot afternoons or a crowded room. Medium suits most evenings. Low is quiet enough for sleeping and still keeps air moving. A ceiling fan cools people rather than the room itself, so switch it off when the room is empty.

Before you order

This is the remote only; the receiver in your fan has to be in working order.

Setup & Pairing

Turn off any other fans with this style of remote, so only this fan hears the pairing signal.
Open the battery door of the 50609 remote and insert one A23 12-volt battery the right way round.
Cycle the power: off at the switch or breaker, then on again.
Before 30 seconds pass, hold down Learn (inside the battery bay) for roughly 5 seconds.
A paired fan starts running on low with the light off. If that doesn't happen, start over from the power step.
If your owner's manual says to hold High and Low together for 5 seconds after restoring power, that method works too.

In the box: one 50609 replacement remote, a wall holder plus screws, and printed instructions. The A23 battery is sold separately.
