The light wire

On many ceiling fans the light kit is fed by its own lead, often blue, while black powers the motor and white is the neutral. Your receiver's labels and your earlier photo are the real guide, so match each connection to how the old receiver was wired.

Dead remote or failed receiver?

Start with the cheap test. Put a fresh battery in the remote and press a button while watching its indicator light, if it has one. If the remote seems alive but the fan still ignores it, and turning the breaker off and on does nothing, the receiver in the canopy is the part that has failed.

Setup & Pairing

1. Turn off power to the fan at the breaker.
2. Drop the canopy, unscrew the wire nuts on the old receiver and note each connection.
3. Connect the new receiver with wire nuts the same way the old one was connected.
4. Power down any other nearby fans first; otherwise they could pair to the same remote.
5. Flip the breaker on and, inside about 30 seconds, press and hold 0 on the remote. Two blinks from the light mean it paired.
6. Try low, medium and high, then the light, before closing up the canopy.
