DC motors and fine speed control

Fans in this group use DC motors, which is why the remote offers six speeds instead of three. DC motors also tend to run quietly and use less power than older AC designs. The trade-off is that the remote is your main way to reach all those features.

Leave the wall switch on

A remote-controlled fan needs steady power from its wall switch. If someone flips it off, the remote has nothing to talk to. Many owners put a guard over the switch, or ask the family to leave it up and use the remote instead.

Before you order

Don't power the fan from a rheostat or full-range dimmer wall control; it can damage the fan or the remote.

Setup & Pairing

Load a 12V A23 battery (sold separately) into the remote, checking the polarity marks.
Flip the fan's circuit off and on. When it powers up, the receiver sounds two tones.
Right away, and within 30 seconds, press Learn on the back.
When the light flashes 3 times, stays on, and the fan spins up on high, pairing is done.
No luck? Repeat the power off/on step and press Learn a little sooner.

In the box: the replacement remote, its wall-mount cradle and screws, and a set of instructions (battery not included).
