Will This Remote Fit?
This remote is made to replace the TR258A. Check the label on your old remote (often inside the battery cover) — if it reads TR258A, this is the one you need.

About the Harbor Breeze TR258A Remote
Replacing a TR258A is the quick fix for a Harbor Breeze fan you can't control. You get three speeds and light control, with no DIP switches to set. The TR258A number is usually on a label on the back of the remote, or inside the battery compartment next to the battery. Inside its battery door you'll see a single A23 battery and a small Learn button, the same layout this remote uses.
We built this one for fans that shipped with the TR258A. You'll need one 12V A23 battery, then a quick power cycle to pair it.
- Pairs with a power cycle and the Learn button
- Wall mount and screws included
- Takes a single 12V A23 battery, sold separately
Boltz and Boltz II fans
Boltz and Boltz II fans use the MR173B receiver, which learns this remote's code after a power cycle. Nothing in the canopy needs to change: put in the battery, cycle the power, press Learn, and the fan answers. A Boltz III is a different story, since it uses a color-changing receiver that pairs with a different remote.
After a receiver swap
If you ever replace the receiver in the canopy, the new receiver won't know this remote yet. Pair them the same way: power off, power on, then press Learn within 30 seconds. The fan drops to low and the light goes off when it's done.
Before you order
- It pairs with one remote per receiver, so it won't run a setup with two remotes on one fan.
Setup & Pairing
Have the battery in before you touch the wall switch.
- Put a fresh 12V A23 battery in the remote, matching the + and - marks.
- Switch off power to the fan at the wall switch or at the breaker.
- Wait a few seconds, then restore power.
- Before 30 seconds pass, press the Learn button inside the battery compartment.
- Watch the fan: it drops to low and the light goes off once it has paired.
Pair again any time you replace the receiver.
In the box: TR258A replacement remote, a wall mount bracket with its screws, and instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does pairing take?
Less than a minute. Cycle the fan's power, then press Learn inside the battery compartment within 30 seconds; the fan drops to low and the light goes off to confirm.
What battery does it take?
One 12V A23 battery. It is not included.
Which receiver does it work with?
It learns the MR173B receiver in Boltz and Boltz II fans and the AM-3L receiver in the Oxford 52-in.
Does it dim the light?
It switches the light on and off, and it works with both dimmable and non-dimmable light kits.
Can I use two remotes on one fan?
No. Each receiver pairs with one remote, so plan on one remote per fan.
When will my order ship?
In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.
