About the Hunter 27182 Wall Control

Our 27182 replacement wall control brings back fan speed and light dimming on one dual-slide control. If your Hunter fan-light slide control is worn, buzzing or stuck, this hard-wired control fits the same single-gang wall box, and it gives you four fan speeds, one more than the original.

It is made for Hunter and Casablanca AC fans that came with the 27182 control. Check the label on your old control: if it reads 27182, this is the one you need. Installation is a 3-wire hookup: hot, fan and light.

Before you order

Your fan and light need separate wires from the wall box. If one switch runs both on a single wire, extra wiring is needed.
Fan load limit is 1.25 A. The original 27182 is rated 1.6 A, so check that your fan draws 1.25 A or less.

Setup & Pairing

Safety first: turn off power at the breaker panel, not just the wall switch.
Set the fan's pull chain to High and turn the light chain on. Leave them that way.
Check that the fan and the light each have their own wire from the wall box to the ceiling. If one wire feeds both, extra wiring is needed.
Connect the hot (line), fan and light wires to the matching control leads with wire nuts. Attach the ground to the ground screw if you have one.
Mount the control in the wall box with the two screws, reuse your existing wall plate, and turn the breaker back on.

My fan and light run off one wall switch. Will this work?

Not without extra wiring. The fan and the light each need their own wire from the wall box up to the ceiling.

How many fan speeds does the 27182 replacement have?

Four speeds plus Off, set with one slider.

Does it work with LED bulbs?

The dimmer is rated for incandescent fan light kits up to 300 W. We can't promise smooth dimming with every LED bulb, and it is not for CFL bulbs.

What should my pull chains be set to?

Set the fan chain to High and turn the light chain on, then leave them. The wall control does the rest.

Will it fit a DC fan?

No. It is for standard reversible AC fans only, not DC-motor fans or shaded-pole motors.

What if my old control has a different number?
