About the Hampton Bay 54CVT Remote

The Hampton Bay 54CVT is the Covington 54-inch ceiling fan. A new remote is all it takes to bring back a For/Rev key, Fan Auto thermostat and down-light dimming. Check your old remote for a For/Rev key, since this is the reverse version.

Confirm the model number on the fan's label before you order; this page is for the 54CVT. Setup is four DIP switches and four AAA batteries.

One remote per fan

Each remote is meant to run one fan. Keep a dedicated one for every fan in the house and mark the back with the room name. That keeps the bedroom fan from starting when someone adjusts the living room, and it makes troubleshooting simple: if one fan stops answering, you know exactly which remote and receiver belong together.

Windward III caution

Some Hampton Bay Windward III fans came with a remote that has a red or orange light button and an up/down-light receiver. This remote won't run the light on those fans, which need a matched remote and receiver kit. Check the light button color on your old remote.

Before you order

The reverse key only works if your fan's receiver and motor support remote reverse. Some fans need a reverse module.

Setup & Pairing

Have a pen or small screwdriver handy for the DIP switches.

Shut off the fan's circuit at the breaker.
Slide off the battery cover on the new remote. The 4 DIP switches are inside the battery compartment.
Write down the up/down positions from the old remote or the canopy receiver.
Copy that pattern onto the new remote, load four AAA batteries and close it up.
Turn the power back on and test the fan speeds and light.

If a neighbor's fan or your garage door reacts, change the pattern on both the receiver and the remote.

It runs the fan by room temperature. Below your set point the fan stays off, then it steps from low to high as the room warms.

Will it work on my Windward III fan?

Not if your Windward III came with a remote that has a red or orange light button. This remote will not run the light on those fans, so check your old remote before ordering.

Is this the original Hampton Bay part?

No. It's a new Comfort Direct replacement built to work like the original remote, and it carries our 1-year warranty.

Do I have to point the remote at the fan?

No. It works by radio, so you don't need a clear line of sight. Weak batteries and distance are what limit its reach.
