About the Harbor Breeze RDS44BNK5LR Receiver
Your RDS44BNK5LR is a 44-in Harbor Breeze Reidsport ceiling fan with a brushed nickel finish. The motor in a fan like this usually outlasts the receiver, so a dead remote rarely means a dead fan. One wire-in swap gets the remote working again for speeds and the light.
Check the model label on your fan: if it reads RDS44BNK5LR, this is the one you need. Most people finish the swap in under an hour.
- Three speeds and off from your remote
- 1-year warranty, in-stock orders ship same day
- Pairs in about 30 seconds by holding one button
- 3 fan speeds plus off
Test before you finish
Before the last canopy screw goes in, run each speed for a moment, turn the light on and off and try dimming. Fixing a loose connection is much easier now than after everything is buttoned up. Then secure the canopy and enjoy the fan.
Wire leads or a square plug?
This receiver connects with wire nuts. Before you order, lower the canopy and look at the old receiver: if its wires end in loose leads joined with wire nuts, you are set. If it connects through a square plug instead, contact us before ordering.
Before you order
- This receiver uses wire-nut leads. If your old one connects through a square plug, contact us first.
Setup & Pairing
Here is the whole job, start to finish.
- Cut power at the breaker panel, not just the wall switch.
- Open the canopy and remove the old receiver, writing down which lead joined which wire.
- Hook up the replacement receiver with wire nuts exactly as the old one was wired, then tuck it into the canopy.
- Switch off other ceiling fans in the area so they stay out of the pairing.
- Turn the breaker back on. Within about 30 seconds, press and hold the remote's 0 (fan off) button until the light blinks twice.
- Try low, medium and high, then the light, before closing up the canopy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this replacement receiver for the Harbor Breeze RDS44BNK5LR fit my ceiling fan?
It fits the 1 model listed under Compatible Models on this page. If your model isn’t listed, call us at (816) 586-8457 and we’ll check for you.
Can I keep my wall dimmer?
We recommend a standard on/off wall switch. The receiver handles dimming, and a wall dimmer can interfere with it.
Where do I find the model number on my fan?
On a label on top of the motor housing, and often on the fan box and manual. Turn the power off before you climb up to read it.
My old receiver has a square plug. Will this fit?
This receiver connects with wire nuts. If your old one connects through a square plug instead of wire leads, contact us at (816) 586-8457 before ordering.
Why does my light flicker when dimmed?
Usually the bulbs. If your fan takes screw-in bulbs, use dimmable ones of the same type in every socket.
Can I use the wall switch to turn the fan off?
Leave the wall switch on so the receiver has power, and use the remote for the fan and light. Turning the switch off cuts the receiver too.
When will my order ship?
In-stock orders placed by 4 PM, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day.
What is your return policy?
You can return items within 90 days. Items must be unused and uninstalled, in their original packaging. No restocking fees. Please read our return policy before sending anything back. Questions? Call (816) 586-8457 or email info@fanremotes.com.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Every product we sell comes with a 1-year warranty against defects. If it fails because of a defect, contact us and we’ll send a replacement.
