About the Hunter 99198 Remote

Replacing a 99198 is the quick fix for a Hunter fan you can't control. You get speed control with + and - keys plus a dimmable light. The 99198 number is usually on a label on the back of the remote, or inside the battery compartment next to the battery. The original is a handheld that runs on two AAA batteries, with a fan button, + and - keys and a light control.

If 99198 is the number on your old remote, you're in the right place. Setup is a power cycle and a press-and-hold of the fan button during the receiver's pairing window.

The wall cradle

The included cradle mounts on the wall and holds the remote when you're not using it. Put it by the door or the bed, wherever you reach for the fan most.

The pairing window

The receiver accepts a new remote only for a short time after it gets power. Turn the fan off for at least 10 seconds, turn it back on, and press and hold the fan button right away until the fan or light responds. Some fan manuals name a different button for this step, so check yours if the fan button doesn't work.

Before you order

Replacement remote only. It does not include a receiver, so the fan must already have a compatible Hunter or Casablanca receiver.
Not for Hunter Original fans or DC motor fans.

Setup & Pairing

Syncing takes about a minute.

Install 2 AAA batteries.
Cut power to the fan for at least 10 seconds, then restore it.
Right away, press and hold the fan button until the fan or light reacts. If your manual names another button, use that one.
Test the 4 fan speeds and the light dimmer.

Pair again if your receiver is ever replaced.
