About the Harbor Breeze 42300 Remote

Model 42300 is Harbor Breeze's 52-inch Boltz ceiling fan in brushed nickel, fitted with a color-changing LED light (Lowe's item 3025021). A new remote is all it takes to bring back three speeds and light control, with no DIP switches to set. It learns the MR173B receiver already in the fan, so nothing changes up in the canopy.

Dead remote or failed receiver?

Start with a fresh battery and a second try at pairing. If the fan still ignores every button, switch it off at the wall for a minute and back on. A remote problem usually leaves the fan healthy and simply deaf to the buttons. A failed receiver tends to show other signs, like a fan that won't start, hums, or sticks on one speed. A new remote can't repair a receiver, so call us if those signs show up.

Size and feel

At about 2 by 4.5 inches and an inch thick, this remote fits easily in one hand and slips into the included wall bracket. The buttons are laid out one per function, so there's no menu or mode to learn.

It pairs with one remote per receiver, so it won't run a setup with two remotes on one fan.

Setup & Pairing

Pairing takes about a minute and needs no tools.

Install one 12V A23 battery in the remote.
Switch off power to the fan at the wall switch or at the breaker.
Switch the power back on.
Within 30 seconds, press the Learn button inside the remote's battery compartment.
Watch the fan: it drops to low and the light goes off once it has paired.

Missed the window? Turn the power off and on again and repeat the Learn press.
