About the Harbor Breeze 40190 Remote

Owners of the Harbor Breeze 40190 should look at their old remote before ordering. The owner's manual for this fan shows a remote with a slide season switch, a different layout from this one. If yours has that switch, or you aren't sure, contact us first; otherwise this replacement restores six speeds, reverse and dimming.

Check that the model on your fan's sticker or manual reads 40190. Then restore power, listen for the two tones and press Learn; the fan starting on high tells you it's paired.

Label your breaker

Pairing is easier when you know which breaker or switch feeds the fan. Take a minute to mark it on the panel. Then cycling power for pairing is quick, and you won't reset clocks all over the house.

Why it doesn't need aiming

The remote talks to the fan on 315 MHz radio, not infrared. You don't need a clear line of sight, so it works from the couch, the bed, or around a corner in an open room. Thick walls or metal cabinets between you and the fan can shorten the range.

Setup & Pairing

Load a 12V A23 battery (sold separately) into the 40190 remote, checking the polarity marks.
Flip the fan's circuit off and on. When it powers up, the receiver sounds two tones.
Before 30 seconds pass, press Learn on the back of the remote.
Watch for the light to blink 3 times and stay lit while the fan runs on high: you're paired.
If nothing happens, cycle the power again and press Learn faster.
Neighbor's remote triggering the fan? Move the battery-compartment DIP switch from 0 to 1, then repeat the pairing.

Tip: write the pairing steps on a sticky note inside a cabinet door for next time.

I have two fans. Will both respond?

They can if both are powered while you pair. Switch the other fan off first and pair each one separately.
