About the Amana Air Conditioner Remote

Amana is a familiar name on PTAC units in hotels, apartments and senior housing, and the brand also appears on ductless wall units. Plenty of Amana units are run from buttons on the cabinet, but if yours came with a handheld infrared remote and that remote is gone, this is a replacement you can set up in place.

Rather than one short code block, the quick-code guidance gives Amana a longer starting list of eighteen codes, so there's plenty to try. If none of them works, the automatic search runs through the remote's codes until your unit answers.

Setup & Pairing

Start with these codes, in this order: 0197, 0198, 0199, 0200, 0514, 1026, 1733, 0266, 0267, 0268, 0269, 0270, 0271, 0272, 0453, 0454, 0455, 0778.

Install two AAA batteries.
Slide the bottom panel on the front of the remote down. You'll find SELECT there; type digits using the small number in each key's lower-left corner.
Press SELECT, enter 0197, and point at the Amana's receiver (usually on the front control area of a PTAC, or on the face of a wall unit).
No response? SELECT again, then the next code. Keep a pencil handy to tick off codes as you go.
Once the unit responds, try every key you use. If the Amana reacts but a button does nothing, go on to the next code.

If the list runs out: hold SELECT 5 seconds to start auto-search, keep aiming, and press any key as soon as the unit beeps or switches.

Set the time (CLOCK, TIME +/−, CLOCK) and choose °F with the C/F key.

Only if the PTAC has an infrared receiver, which is usually the case when it came with a handheld remote. Units controlled only from the cabinet or a wall thermostat won't respond.
