About the Kenmore Air Conditioner Remote

Kenmore window and portable air conditioners have been sold through Sears for years, and they were built for Kenmore by more than one supplier. That's why the Kenmore starting list runs to fifteen codes covering different control designs. Work through them in order; if none of them takes, the auto-search keeps going for you.

What it controls once set: power, mode, temperature, fan speed, swing on units that have it, on/off timers and sleep. Kenmore units that heat will respond to Heat mode; cooling-only models simply skip it.

What's on the remote: a backlit LCD with clock and room temperature and a C/F key for switching units. It's infrared, so point it at the front of your Kenmore from up to about 25 feet away.

What's in the box: the Kenmore replacement remote plus a bracket for hanging it. Batteries (two AAA) are not included.

Setup & Pairing

Kenmore starting codes, in order: 0216, 0217, 0218, 0219, 0220, 0569, 1245, 1752, 0197, 0198, 0199, 0200, 0514, 1026, 1733.

Slip two AAA batteries into the back.
The SELECT key is behind the slide-down panel at the bottom of the remote. Pull it down. Small digits printed in the lower-left corners of the keys are what you use to type a code.
Press SELECT, type 0216, then point at the Kenmore and press power.
Nothing? Go to the next code on the list. Fifteen codes go faster if you tick each off as you test.
Once the AC responds, test mode and temperature. If it reacts but a button doesn't, move to the next code.

Auto-search is your fallback: aim the remote, hold SELECT for 5 seconds, then press any key the moment the Kenmore beeps or changes.

Finally, set the clock (CLOCK, TIME +/−, CLOCK) and toggle °F/°C with C/F.
