About the Invacare 5490IVC Hand Control
The Invacare 5490IVC is a full-electric IVC homecare bed with six powered functions. A new pendant is all it takes to bring back plug-in control of the head, foot and height.
Check the label on your bed: if it reads 5490IVC, this pendant is made for it. Unplug the old pendant and plug in the new one; that's it.

Check the plug
This pendant uses a 6-way, 10-pin phone-style plug. Look at the end of your old pendant's cord before you order. If the plug looks the same, it will connect to the bed's junction box.
Routing the cord
After you plug the pendant in, route the cord away from the bed's moving parts and secure it with the cable lock or strain relief. A cord caught in the frame is a common way pendants get damaged.
Before you order
- Check your old pendant's plug before ordering: this pendant uses a 10-pin phone-style connector.
- Not for Invacare semi-electric beds (5310IVC, 5311IVC), which use a 4-button pendant and a hand crank for height.
Setup & Pairing
Here's how to swap the pendant.
- Pull the bed's power plug from the wall.
- Unplug the old pendant from the bed's junction box connector.
- Push the new pendant's plug in until it clicks, then secure the cable lock or strain relief.
- Guide the cord away from the frame's moving parts, plug the bed in and test all six buttons.
If the bed pauses after heavy use, wait up to 30 minutes for the motors to cool.
