About the Winia Air Conditioner Remote

Winia, the Korean appliance maker, sells window and portable air conditioners in the US and has also shown wall-mounted ductless models. When the remote for your Winia unit breaks or disappears, this Comfort Direct replacement brings back control from your couch or bed.

Setup could hardly be shorter. There are just three Winia codes in the instructions, and you test them one at a time. When your unit responds, you have:

Mode selection (Cool, Dry, Fan and Auto, plus Heat on units that have it)
Temperature and fan speed
Swing on units with motorized louvers
Timers to switch on or off and a sleep setting

The backlit LCD is easy to read at night and switches between °F and °C. Because it's infrared, aim it at the unit's front panel, where the receiver sits on window and portable models; range is roughly 25 feet. Two AAA batteries are required and not included, and a wall bracket is in the box.

Setup & Pairing

With three codes, this usually takes under five minutes.

Load two AAA batteries, matching the polarity marks inside the back.
Slide down the cover at the bottom of the remote to reach SELECT and the hidden keys. Use the little digit in each key's bottom-left corner to type numbers.
Press SELECT, then enter 0481. Point at the Winia's control panel and press power.
No response? Repeat with 0550, and then 0993.
Check mode, temperature and fan once the unit answers. If the AC reacts but a button does nothing, step to the next Winia code.

If none of the three takes, start auto-search: hold SELECT for 5 seconds, keep aiming at the unit, and press any key the second it beeps or changes state.

Afterward, press CLOCK, use TIME +/− to set the hour, press CLOCK to save, and select °F or °C with C/F.

Does this work on a Winia window unit?

If your window unit came with an infrared remote, this one is set up to run it with the Winia codes. Point it at the front control panel.

What about a Winia portable AC?

Portables with an infrared receiver can be controlled too. Keep the remote in view of the unit's front, since infrared needs line of sight.

There's no Heat on my unit. Will that cause a problem?

No. Cooling-only units just ignore Heat mode.

Only three codes? What if none works?

Use the automatic code search as the backup. If the remote still can't control your AC, return it within 90 days.
